When AHRC published the foreclosure story several national publications including CNN and New York Times began investigating the foreclosure story. Peters & Freedman immediately negotiated a settlement payment with her lawyer Walter Taylor which included the return her home and a payment of $5,000. She initially refused (she told the media it had already cost her $80,000. in investigations and legal fess.) After further negotiations with her lawyer, Peters & Freedman and Colburn reached a settlement agreement - Peters & Freedman required her sign a confidentiality agreement. In 2004 she attempted to testify about her foreclosure and appeared before the California Senate Housing Committee Foreclosure Hearings with a box of information about her case. She then told the legislators and media that Peters & Freedman was threatening to sue her if she violated her confidentiality agreement so Senator Ducheny attempted to get a subpoena to get her testimony. It did not get done in time and she did not testify at the scheduled meeting. She has filed reports of foreclosure abuses with government authorities,and the Caifornia State Bar. She also shares her knowledge and experinces with the media and homeowner association lawsuit and foreclosure victims. Melissa Colburn has an expert witness business. She testifies for lawyers litigating against cities and others in toxic waste litigation.
