Is this membership advertisment by the lobby group California Congress of Seniors accurate?
This broad-based coalition includes a variety of senior advocacy organizations such as:
* the California Legislative Council of Older Americans,
* Gray Panthers,
* International Senior Citizens Association (ISCA), and
* Older Women's League (OWL).
In addition, CCS represents retired public employee organizations such as:
* the California Federation of Teachers (ATF AFL-CIO),
* Retired Public Employees Association (RPEA),
* California School Employees Association (CSEA),
* the Retired Division of the California State Employees Association (CSEA), and
* the California Federation of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE).
Member organizations also include: the Federation of Retired Union Members (FORUM), as well as retiree clubs representing many trade unions and international labor organizations --
* American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME),
* International Association of Machinist (IAM),
* Communication Workers of America (CWA),
* International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW),
* International Brotherhood of Teamsters,
* Service Employees International Union (SEIU),
* United Automobile Workers (UAW),
* United Food and Commercial Workers Union (UFCW) and others.
The CCS coalition includes members of senior centers, tenant associations, church and social groups as well as County Area Agencies on Aging and other agencies and organizations concerned with the well being of the senior community.
Did all the organizations listed above follow their corporate rules and take a vote to hire CCS as their lobbyist to represent ALL members' property and constitutional rights and financial interests ?
This ad seems to also imply that if one person from ABC County Seniors Tenants Club pays $15. to CCS, the ABC County Seniors Tenant Club becomes a member of CCS "coalition".
I am a member of the California Federation of Teachers (ATF AFL-CIO) and a homeowner. I do not want of be represented by CCS or any other lobbyists on vital matters affecting my rights and finances.
Bill Powers and Majorie Murray from CCS , the media PR team for Christine Kehoe's AB2289 worked behind the scenes on this homeowner association bill affected 6 million Californians' property rights and pocketbooks. Lobbyists including CCS, government workers, and Kehoe were the only "stakeholders" who were notified and included in secret discussions for the bill.
Homeowners should be notified and included in all "stakeholder" discussions conducted by government.
