Melvin Thomas has had first hand experience about the law firm of Peters & Freedman.
David Peters and Laurie Poole were involved in maupulating an election meeting at Palacio del Mar Homeowners Association.
David Peters refused to let Thomas accompany a a candidate at the election meeting.
Unknown to the homeowenrs Peters had fraudulently changed the CCRs of this association to remove the culmulative voting rights of the homeowners and Thomas had challenged it..
The board, Poole and Peters had been hiding a lawsuit by an adjacent homeowners association from all the owners and new buyers for many years. Peter was holding up $350,000 worth of repairs the insurance comapany had received permission to do from the City of San Clemente because he wanted $35,000 for himself for "advising the board". The insurance company refused to pay him as they had already had assigned and paid two lawyers to handle the board and the association's interest.
When angry new buyers confronted the board, Peters told the owners, "The board has no obligation to tell you about such lawsuits." The judge in this case had issued a watering injunction against all the owners and the new owners were not given this information. The old owners thought that the lawsuit had settled years ago.
A few years later Thomas had a personal run in with Peters when he was purchasing a rural lot and before the escrow closed, asked to see the finacial records of the association . Peters wrote a threatening letter telling him not to contact the association for this.
