There are a few simple truths about the Middle East:
1. The notion that anything that happens in the Middle East is not connected to oil is laughable.
2. The Middle East is the last remaining hotbed of colonialism and its ultimate failure.
3. In 1921 the British sat down with a map, a ruler, and a pencil and created, for the most part, the political subdivisions or countries, that we call the Middle East. There are absolutely no "natural" factors in their development at all. This is why Iraq is currently in the process of dividing itself into three states.
4. The holocaust did indeed happen. 6,000,000 Jews along with 5,000,000 non-Jews of various descent were enslaved and killed. Genocide is an all to frequent occurrence and the Jews are not the only people ever subjected to it.
5. The creation and ongoing maintenance of the state of Israel has been done at extreme harm to the Palestinian people. Their treatment has been nothing short of criminal, from the forced leaving of their homes at gunpoint right up to the "ghettoization" of today. For anyone who doesn't see this, I suggest you read Jimmy Carter's book on the subject.
6. As long as the Religious Right has sway over America with regard to supporting Israel at all costs (this is to further their Biblical prophecy concerning all Jews returning to Israel before the Rapture) any meaningful solution to the problem is beyond reach.
7. Political alliances in the Middle East, with the exception of the American/Israeli case, are about as durable as today's newspaper.Just remember the picture of Saddam and Rumsfeld embracing each other in 1988.
8. The invasion of Iraq was ultimately about nothing more important than George Bush's ego. Whatever lies had to be told, whatever plausible possibility had to be put forth, it did not matter, he was going to show Saddam who was boss. What you have here is the result of America's only "Boy Emperor" throwing a temper tantrum. The guy just isn't that smart.
9. The cost of maintaining the hallucination that we are wanted in Iraq, or anywhere else in the Middle East, is simply too much, both in lives and treasure.
10. Arabs are above all business people who will do business with us. All they have is oil which they are more than willing to sell us, as it is their only natural resource. We should try doing business with them instead of converting them to this, that, or the other.

The pro Israel lobby did NOT cause the war in Iraq. It is time we took back reality from the extremists who are as far from facts as we are from Pluto. It was, allegedly, WMD, and more realistically, for oil. Greenspan has stated that we are in a fragile state and dependent on foreign oil (something anyone who has been following the oil situation for years would have known).
According to Greenspan, Saddam would have loved to have control of all the Mideast oil..thereby putting the US in the same position that Japan was after we embargoed it. THAT is why we went to war in Iraq, that and, if you look at a map, you will notice the geographic positioning of that country in respect to other potential idiot states in the area.
You seem to be an ideologue who refused to let facts get in the way of your opinions..btw..Greenspan did warn Bush, but Bush, stubborn as always, refused to alter his tax cut and saddle your children spend policy. Get your facts straight before spewing.

I go on this web-site to find out about homeowner association issues. While I completely disagree with this economist blaming Israel and Jews for the current economic situation in the United States, I do not want to make this a forum of debate about a subject not relevant to this web-site. This web-site should be monitored to prevent off-topic subjects. This letter an anti-semitic diatribe in the guise of economic news from a CANADIAN attempting to tell AMERICANS what we are doing wrong.

Dear Linda:
The fact that the monetary system directly affects every home, family, and mortgage investor in this country makes any insider review critical information every property owner must have.
Best regards

Yes, isn't it strange that over 2,000 years of Israeli/Islamic turmoil is actually the heart of what continues to affect the entire world even to this day? There are definitely 'extremists' in both of these religious groups, which continue to wage war against each other while even the 'far right' Christian community in the U.S. has fallen into this trap.
So sad, as even the Nation of Israel has many activists within it's ranks which also opposed the 'zionists' agendas which have assisted in this now 2,000 year old 'war' continuing, and it is the 'pro-zionist' also extremist fringe in the U.S. responsible, and using the far right wing Christian community to continue this mentality, which actually is diametrically opposed to Christ's teachings to begin with. The parable of the 'Good Samaritan' obviously has been lost to them, and as with this Administration in favor of their own 'personal' gains - i.e., oil and control of the Middle East (not Israel at all, but the Islamic countries), rather than respecting their 'rights' to govern their own sacred soil as they see fit, without interference.
I'd be interested in knowing how many of the 'zionists' in this country have encouraged or sent their children to Iraq, or since Israel is 'sacred soil' also encouraged them to return to their 'homeland,' or have immediate relatives now living there.
If, in your religious beliefs, you believed that the Nation of Israel was 'promised' to the Jews for all eternity per scriptual interpretations, wouldn't you be living there, rather than living in the U.S. rather than spouting your hypocritical 'zionist' philosphy?
If all the 'zionist' Jews in America were living in Israel being true to their unconditional support and the wealth they have built up on this country, don't you think then with the numbers involved this religious war would be over, and Israel would again become the promised land for the Hebrew nation, rather than using the U.S. government to promote their cause and agenda? Why are they now living in the U.S. if it is Israel that is their true homeland, while lobbying Congress and our country to send our troops in for their own cause?
Christians believe God is everywhere and not solely in Israel, so why does the zionist Jewish population in this country continue to lobby for support for Israel, while refusing to send their own children there to do battle for their religious cause?
