On Brown and Bush
No doubt Mr Brown would like to keep President Bush at arm's length, extricate British troops from the Iraq mess (who wouldn't?) and prefers "soft power" bullying to war... But don't be fooled into thinking he could ever follow the Love, Actually script on the public stage. Despite the fantasies of 'Hugh Brown' groupies, he was as likely to scold the President over Iraq as to emulate Grant's PM by getting off with the lady who serves his tea in No 10. I don't see any correlation between the commenter's opinions of the status of British government and a British subject living in the United States owning property subject to a U.S. states statutes regarding his or her rights as a property owner. Having said that,
Doesn't anyone find it interesting that American soldiers can hardly get more than a less meaningful raise in pay by an American Congress who qualifies for a $15,000.00 per month retirement after serving a mere one term.
Anybody want to address the Congress and suggest that they get no more of a retirement than U.S. Soldiers receive as pay for active duty? Further, if a U.S. Soldier or Reserve loses his home while on active duty, perhaps there needs to be some Federal Protection and guarantee that his home will be preserved until he or she gets home, returns to their previous earning position and recovers it from foreclosure, if possible.
As far as reading your Escrow or Closing Instructions, many times the provisions of HOA's are only referred to in a non-supplied reference. If Social Security is so great, why do our legislator's vote on our behalf as to premiums and reduction of benefits but won't participate in it for their own families.
You know why, even if you didn't read your closing documents before you signed! What does that have to do with homeowner rights? The same reason your right to the American Dream of homeownership has not to date secured any protective legislation from our millionaire Congressional Representatives, and most state legislators.

As regards your comment, "As for those lawyers involved...what more is there to say?" If you're talking about many, if not most, **HOA/CIC** lawyers (often CAI members) who appear to represent only an HOA/CIC's corrupt **BOARD** members, I could not agree with you more!"
At least in my former community, they didn't even represent many of the Board members at all, in fact, after viewing some of the 'tactics' and 'tricks' of the CAI management concerns and attorneys, after serving on the Boards was when many owners in our community put their properties 'in trust,' in an attempt to protect their properties from any potential 'seizure.'
The HOA attorneys will 'side' with whichever 'side' will increase the conflict and their revenue or real estate portfolios, as there are usually a few realtors or other 'industry types' living in every single one of them, who 'buy' the property value line, and also then in exchange get some form of 'protection' for their own properties.
Many of the 'realtors' and 'brokers' are in line with the CAI, an actually one attorney member the 'advisor' of their trade organization, as they also 'profit' from the discord from the high turnovers of property, and 'loss' in a 'quick sale' or 'theft' of their home, and also many also scoop these properties up from 'insider' information, and also support the 'mandatory reserve' concept and removal of voting rights and privileges, because it is hard to sell these properties with that added 'kicker' of additional property taxes and liability for not simply your own property, but even the actual streets and street lighting fixtures replacement costs that the usual property taxes are collected to cover.
They are hard to sell, because they are actually 'money pits' with the 'over the top' standards and 'seizure' right included and statutory laws now enacted which inflict even more 'costs of ownership' on the purchasers.
The entire concept is 'loony' and actually simply a 'license to extort and steal' eventually, anyone's home who is living in one by the real 'principals,' the management concerns, attorneys, city officials and legislators who clearly believe it is the 'government' which is sovereign and owns the land, and the land is for U.S.A., Inc. per Kelo.
The cities do have zoning and public hearings, and this position that the extra sums for 'infrastructure' sums clearly shams, since the more the city and states collect, again as with the federal government, the more they will spend. "Government grants' are no more than 'charitable donations' with the government, not the citizens, then deciding which organizations are worthy of charitable contributions, and using your tax money. The only 'zoning' in incorporated cities that should/need be done in order to insure the 'freedom' of the eventual purchaser over his purchased property and in these developments is by lot or parcel, and whether zoned commercial or residential. And these 'planned communities' limited or eliminated since actually the developer and state are not 'selling' these properties at all, they are granting 'use rights and privileges' and for any small infraction of it's the 'use terms,' you can lose whatever 'investment' you had in them without even 'eminent domain' protection, of course, thanks to that violation and degradation of the founding fathers sacrifice and the 'War of '76', the infamous Kelo decision (and although apparently more than 'justly' compensated, Suzette Kelo it was apparent dearly loved her home, and it was not 'taken' for a public 'use' at all, the 'city government' just wanted it for additional tax revenue, and the federal government instead of protecting 'her' rights as an actual legal "person" under the U.S. Constitution, protected instead the 'corporate' state interest and it's corporate personhood and in viewing the government as 'sovereign' it's governmental purposes instead).

As far as the form of government NOW in Britain as 'socialist,' it is not at all (just because 'medicine' there is under a National Health Care plan, does not make it a 'socialist' government at all), it is now with the weakening of the monarch, much more a parlimentary democracy....but without some of the protections that are found here (the Anglican Church of England as the ONLY recognized denomination of the Christian faith).
The actual form:
The System of Government
Britain is a parliamentary democracy with a constitutional monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, as head of the State. The British constitution, unlike those of most countries, is not set out in a single document. Instead it is made up of a combination of laws and practices which are not legally enforceable, but which are regarded as vital to the working of government.

"Along these same lines, anybody stupid enough to buy into a HOA without first reading the documents related to the HOA, deserve what they get."
Unfortunately, must be a newcomer to visiting the site. As far as the above comment, does not even begin to describe what has occurred. Wouldn't help at all if you read the documents 'upon purchase' (since 'the terms' have monumentally changed since purchase due to legislative upholding of this 'state created' entity for tax revenue, and 'over the top' land use control). And not all documents even pertaining to them are recorded or provided - as the statutes which now have been unlawfully passed changing them aren't recorded, nor are all the other 'relevant' documents - nor provided, nor with the usual 24 hours to 'sign on the bottom line' in offers or acceptance in home purchases, and written in such a way that only an attorney can understand, this continued 'defense' of owners 'trapped' in these communities, or experiencing daily 'property theft' of their money, home or equity are actually quite laughable at this point).
Must not live in one, but soon if the 'trend' continues may just find himself 'living in the HOA gulag,' with the 'trendy' name of 'Moonlight Cove' or "Ocean Palms."

Thank you for bringing this HOA issue to the attention of Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
As a non US citizen, we are specifically targeted and often, we have less chances to stand-up for our rights.
"If you don't like it here, why don't you go back to your country" is a very common phrase thrown at my face by a very ignorant, uneducated group who thinks that life in the US is better than at home.
There are a million reasons why some of us "foreign subjects," are here in the US. We might not have a choice to go home at the present - for whatever reason we might serve in the US.
I worked in various countries - including England and had a much better time in all of them. I wanted to see the world and bring my experience home to Switzerland to better serve and understand the many varied international guests visiting Switzerland. My dream was - in time - to get my own Hotel/Restaurant business.
Personally, I got stuck here due to arrogance and irresponsibility of a prior US Government which sent a civilian air line crew into a know pre-announced rocket attack. (Bien Hoa, Viet Nam, June 15, 1969.) I've lived/live through "pure hell" due to the permanent injuries I sustained.
In spite of all, I keep trying to make myself financially independent. I get knocked down and try again only to get knocked down again and slandered because I am not a US citizen.
The computer world has reconnected me and reopened my world. Yes, in spite of all, I will succeed and return to my country with experiences which are different but perhaps just as important. Except this time, I hope to serve the Swiss people and help protect the gullible from the infiltration of the global "TERMITES" undermining their homes!

Re: Comment 1: Mr. Brown has refused to acknowledge the fact that there are terrorists living in Britain
Brown experienced his partner Blair's rise and demise parroting Bush .. hopefully he will do better.
Killing and plundering in Iraq
Both Blair and Bush lied and hurled two world respected nations with large weaponry arsenals into a war that killed the loved ones of three nations and destroyed Iraq. The war profiteers amassed fortunes at the expense of all three nations.
Tony Blair fell out of favor when British citizens realized he was echoing George W. Bush's lies and rhetoric.
The British and the world were also turned off by the daily diet lies, hate and fear from Bush, his appointees, and the pandering White House bought reporters.
The bombing of the Iraqi families, condemnation of the war by British soldiers and families, the plundering by war profiteers, the plane loads of coffins of dead American soldiers hidden from public, the wounded American soldiers deprived of care and housing huddling in California streets for warmth....all spoke more to the British (and the world) than all the flag draped Bush-Blair press dog-n-pony shows from the White House.
Theft of the homes of Americans, British and Internationals in America
Governor George W. Bush passed the Texas HOA home stealing laws. He used Community Association Institute (CAI) home foreclosure lobbyist to front this property heist.
Millions continue to lose life savings, homes to government shielded politicians, lawyers and judges.
Robbing seniors health care savings accounts
Americans save for health care during their senior years using the government mandated Medicare plans.
President George W. Bush lobbied for "Medicare reform" using the "non-profit" insurance reseller AARP. In reality, he lied and aided the drug and insurance company heist of the seniors health care.
Fifteen of the lobbyists and politicians who made "Medicare reform" happen now on the drug companies' payroll with million dollar salaries. This Bush "medicare reform" makes billions for drug and insurance companies gouging America's sick and dying seniors.

To Username Withheld in California:
Some salient points for you to consider...
(1) We The People of these United States do not object to legal immigrants (or visitors) to our country who obey our laws, are not an ecological or financial burden to our country, and who are not "terrorists" whose intent is to destroy our country.
(2) What we intelligent and rational Americans DO strongly object to are (a) wide open boarders which appear to be encouraged by our government (local, state and federal), and (b) illegal aliens (which may, no doubt do, include terrorists).
(3) P.M. Brown and Pres. Bush appear to be birds of a feather, in terms of "anything goes" in order to establish their New World Order (with them as the dictators of the whole sordid shebang).
(4) And that "anything goes" includes sending our brave, young men to fight and perhaps die into a questionable "war" that it appears we cannot win.
(5) As to your comment that, "The cowards never started and the weak died along the way, but they always have a way of bad-mouthing those who would stand and fight." Our country was built on the backs (and graves) of those brave Americans who DID "stand and fight" TO PROTECT OUR FREEDOMS AND LIBERTIES WHEN THE CAUSE WAS REAL AND JUST.
(6) Pres. Bush and P.M. Brown are forcing all Americans to financially support a war ("cause") that appears to be neither real (based on factual evidence) nor just.
(7) As regards your comment, "...anybody stupid enough to buy into a HOA without first reading the documents related to the HOA, deserve what they get." It is a well known fact that no matter how well one reads, and understands, the "documents related to the HOA" before one purchases a home in an HOA/CIC, it will never prepare one for what often actually occurs -- administratively and operationally -- in the HOA/CIC **AFTER** his/her purchase. Complete ecological and financial chaos and corruption are the only words that adequately describe it.
(8) As regards your comment, "As for those lawyers involved...what more is there to say?" If you're talking about many, if not most, **HOA/CIC** lawyers (often CAI members) who appear to represent only an HOA/CIC's corrupt **BOARD** members, I could not agree with you more!

This group of "British citizens" seem to enjoy living the good life in the U.S., otherwise they would have stayed in Britain, with the rest of the socialists.
If I remember correctly, Mr. Brown has refused to acknowlege the fact that there are terrorists living in Britain and would have his collegues refer to them as anything but terrorists.
It seems, to me, that this group of "British Citizens" and Mr. Brown are cut from the same cloth as "peace in our times" Neville Chamberlain. The cowards never started and the weak died along the way, but they always have a way of bad-mouthing those who would stand and fight.
Along these same lines, anybody stupid enough to buy into a HOA without first reading the documents related to the HOA, deserve what they get.
In their rush and greed to take advantage of "constantly appreciating" prices and a chance to get away from noisy neighbors, many people purchase a piece of property without any consideration about the pitfalls. Woe unto them...!
As for those lawyers involved...what more is there to say?
