Today, August 25, I recieved, yet another condecending letter from my HOA. (My family and I have only lived in the community for 4 months)

This time it was in reference to the fading of the doors and shutters. They are giving us until November 1st to paint the items, unless they will do it and charge us for the work.

Keep in mind that this is the FIRST notice we have recieved about the repair. And as far as I know, the said items were, in fact, painted the year before. Not to mention that I pay 40. per month to have them do minor repair work, much like this one. Hmmmm?

However, and this is where your question comes in, if we wanted to paint them ourselves, or have them professionally painted we have to buy it at DURON PAINT in Camp Hill PA, and are only to use FOREST GREEN and CLAY, with the formula "PX-1 and B-21."

They also noted, " The Duron Paint Co. is the supplier for paint for all the townhouses. The paint must be mixed and not just picked up according to color name."

Can you tell which houses have a fresh coat of paint?

3. HOA's have a vicious cycle of vulture vendors and they know exactly how to keep the food chain fat.
  How about:
Requiring the entire sprinkler system be replaced at the cost of tens of thousands of dollars. The grass is green. The sprinklers are turning, but for a few that need new sprinkler heads. But then the owner of the landscaping company - well - kissin' cousins with the board prez???

How about:
Asphalting the pool parking lot over and over and over. Within a five year time span - the thickness of the asphalt lot and sidewalk grew inches. They say it needs new asphalt because of crumbling. But did they hire a new asphalt company - of course not.

How about:
Resurfacing the tennis courts. Of course it was the tennis "clubs" idea to do this. Did the tennis court need resurfacing? Of course not. But of course THIS is where the tennis cronies have their wanna bee wimbledon whine and cheesey parties and it MUST flawless dahling.

How about:
Resurfacing the pool? There was no pitting, no crumbling, no cracking. But of course it was the idea of the board members majority who had their little darlin's on the city swim league that used the pool. Lo and behold not only was the pool resurfaced - voila! - new lane lines and rope hooks were put in. Of course, this meant they could now have their city swim league competitions at the pool - swimmers and parents numbering in the hundreds. By the end of the day - green water for the rest of the homeowners to slosh about in.

How about:
Insisting that the pool bathrooms and showers needed to be replaced? The bathroom had gorgeous custom tile - two stalls, two showers, and two sinks. What did they replace it with? A cheap commercial looking facility with four low flush toilets (stupid stupid stupid) two sinks and one shower head outside. Why? This would accomodate the city swim leagues needs for more toilets, and showers outside where the competitors could rinse off more readily without going in and out of the bathrooms.

How about:
Having an Easter Egg hunt or a Christmas party? Now, this is all cute and stuff for the kids but hey - some of us don't do Easter or Christmas and we didn't particularly LIKE our HOA money being spent on Easter egg hunts and Ho Ho parties replete with pervert Easter Bunny and Scrungy Santa Claus in their filthy dirty costumes.

Ahhh yess...... and then there is landscaping costs. My gawd if that common area five acre park didn't look like a jungle whose plants morphed every coupla years. They wanted to plant lush tropical type vegetation and the climate is desert? Duh. Talk about the water bill. During the heat waves - those sprinklers were running day after day after day.

And then............of course they would say the sprinkler system needed to be replaced - again.

HOA's have a vicious cycle of vulture vendors and they know exactly how to keep the food chain fat.

Sincerely,

Ima Burnyn

2. The board was spending $10,000 per month on the company to do this work
  No information regarding brand names.

However, if you requested information regarding vendors.

Example. A new board member - fired the management company and termite company ... new termite company became general contractor hired for dry rot ... also paid annual contract for termite control

Each time a home sold - the HOA insisted the same termite co would be used/paid to do the inspection, after the HOA pays for annual inspections of each unit.

The termite company sent two young men - and men in the community called the construction by the name of a comic strip ... one man would cut a piece of wood - carry it to the other man - it would be too long/short - and they would both start over, again. The wood they used was not treated, which is required, and they did not prime the wood, so the paint chipped away within days ... and the wood aged, quickly ... and, they replaced entire sides of homes and sections above the garage, which is not "dry rot" or how "dry rot" progresses.

Owners were notified - I became the spokesperson - the board was spending $10,000 per month on the company to do this work - even 90 days after being notified by a majority of owners, signing a petition. More than $80,000 was spent on a few homes. Then, when the time to paint arrived, the work had to be re-done!

This is just one example - another - we have a small pear shaped street. One or two areas needed to be patched. Instead, the same, new, board member hired a company for $100,000 to dig up the street and re-pave it. The company was paid $135,000 without telling owners it was even being done. Then, when the HOA was notified by the City - the manhole covers were completely covered and unaccessible. The HOA paid the same company $12,000 to dig down to them ... and we are left with this status ... while the same two areas that needed to be patched ... are not re-appearing, identical to the days prior to the streets being re-paved.

More information is available, especially since I became the target ... because I became a voice questioning the decisions.
