Dear Homeowners:
When AB 2289 (Lowenthal - 2002) was first introduced, I wrote from Texas supporting the bill. After being "gutted", I in no way would lend any support.
I'm ashamed that I supported Senator Alan Lowenthal in the first place.
I know in California, as well as here in Texas, the second most abused state behind California, the Community Association Institute (CAI) is just more stupid (I think, only marginally) than in California.
Our despicable Texas State Senator John J. Carona is buying management companies (e.g. N.N. Jaeschke) in California to build his empire on the broken bodies of homeowners. His is the largest management company in the U.S. and is from Dallas. Go to the web sites www.hoadata.organd AHRC News Service the next time you are told that living in an HOA increases your home value and what Beanie (yes that's her name) and her two sons did to assess this myth in the Houston area. In actuality, your home is losing value against a free market (free of the bloodsucking CAI and its ilk).

PROFILE: I would like to find resources to help us set up own HOA without the use of a management company. We took over most of the responsibilities of running our own HOA but the Management Company which managed the HOA for the first two years, is in arrears with collecting the dues which has cramped our expenditures seriously

The message here seems to be very clear - buying a condo or home with an HOA in california is a very risky proposition.
Besides likely being a very overpriced piece of property, you now take the risk that some neighbor board member with an agenda of his/her own, is in charge of your home, your finances, your hard earned money and your personal life and the California legislators have propagated the madness.
