Homeowner Groups' Power to Foreclose Is Under Attack

Lawmakers say boards have gone too far by seizing and selling units over minor disputes

4. The media is part of the problem. - Why not ...."A BID TO STRENGTHEN HOMEOWNERS RIGHTS"
I wonder why this article does not mention you, instead they quote some people (experts) that I never heard of.

Another thing the media does which irks me: The headline..."A Bid to Weaken ...Boards">

Why not ...."A BID TO STRENGTHEN HOMEOWNERS RIGHTS" or ...."A bid to preserve civil rights"....?

The media is part of the problem.

3. The pitfalls of buying into homeowner associations,
Last year a colleague asked for advice when she was buying a condo for her daughter.

I warned her of the pitfalls of buying into a homeowners association and referred her to the AHRC website to get information. She was shocked and did not quite believe she would face such problems.

She came to me the other day with this Los Angeles Times article and said, "You know, I now believe what you told me and what was written on that website. We had no idea."

The Los Angeles Times should have let the public know about AHRC. It was wrong of them to use AHRC not let the public know the source of their information.

2. Joe Homeowner Advise to Daniel Yi
  Mr. Yi,

You wrote that, "Lawmakers say boards have gone too far by seizing and selling units over minor disputes".

The better title would have been:

"LAWMAKERS HAVE GONE TOO FAR BY PASSING LAWS THAT ALLOW THE SEIZING AND SELLING OF HOMES OVER MINOR DISPUTES".

Your article regarding Homeowners Associations and the power of homeowner association neighbors to foreclose on their fellow neighbors covers some of the salient points - however - you failed to give credit to many Homeowner Adovcates who have been fighting this homeowner association abomination for a very long time.

Homeowner Advocates have been saying for over 15 years, what you wrote in this article. Homeowner adovcates tried for years to knock some sense into these lawmakers and politicians. But the pandered politicians of yore only seemed to answer to a higher $ource.

Finally, some new blood has come along and decided to change things. The "Joe Homeowners" of HOA's are grateful for that.

Although it is too late for the "Joe Homeowners" who have already lost his equity, his child's college funds, and tragically his home, because of the laws passed by lawmakers. Perhaps some day, those lawmakers will be held accountable.

Now that the dangers of living in Homeowner Associations have been put on the radar screen because of the blood, sweat equity and tears of "Joe Homeowner" - there are people who want to ride in on his coat tails and jump on the bandwagon of SAVING HOMES, just to get their name on the billboard. But there will be no free ride for any monkey on the backs of "Joe Homeowner".

Homeowner Adovcates do not get paid for what they do. They work out of the goodness of their hearts and out of a passion to right the wicked wrongs of lawmakers and politicians.

In the end, passion wins.

If you really want to do an article that will put your name on the billboard - why don't you research and write about the incestuous mix of the so called "lawmakers" of HOA housing. You should find plenty of information at The American Homeowners Resource Center (AHRC.com) - one of the pre-eminent authorities for information and resources on homeowners associations in America.

Expose what is referred to as the "L" word in homeowners associations - The LAWYERS, LOBBYISTS, LEGISLATORS, and LITIGATORS. Expose the lawyers who wrote the laws, the lobbyists who lobbied for the laws, the legislators who passed the laws and finally their brethren litigators who prosper off those laws in the legalized housing scam they created called homeowners associations.

THAT'S where the story is. Imagine this:

"LAWMAKERS JAILED FOR RACKETEERING IN A LEGALIZED HOUSING SCAM CALLED HOMEOWNERS ASSOCIATIONS".

Now THAT's a TITLE!!!

I am simply,

1. Did YOU do your "homework" Daniel Yi? No pun intended.
Homeowner Groups????? What the heck is that supposed to be Mr. Yi?? Call it what it is - a HOMEOWNER ASSOCIATION - a.k.a. HOA!

The homeowner association industry has time and again tried to disguise HOA's as something other than the dreaded HOMEOWNER ASSOCIATION with their 'rap sheet' of abuses.

The HOA industry has tried to disguise HOA's as homeowner groups, common interest developments, planned unit developments, master planned communities, community associations, etc. etc. The term HOMEOWNER ASSOCIATION has become a twenty letter cuss word and in its shortest form a three letter one (HOA).

With all due respect Mr. Yi, where HAVE you and the Los Angeles Times been all these years?

You wrote that, "Lawmakers say boards have gone too far by seizing and selling units over minor disputes"???? LAWMAKERS?? Wrong again Mr. Yi. It is the HOMEOWNER ADVOCATES that have been saying it for OVER a decade. HOMEOWNER ADVOCATES could have written this article 10 years ago. And in fact, may have wrote something very similar more than once.

You use the term "units". Call it what it REALLY is Mr. Yi - a HOME. It seems so callous to refer to someone's home as a "unit". I doubt very seriously that someone just went out and decided to invest their life savings into a "unit". That is industry talk if we ever heard it and a sorry attempt to depersonalize the matter of this legalized housing scam known as homeowner associations.

HOMEOWNER ADVOCATES have been DENOUNCING the legalized housing scam of "foreclosure by neighbor" FOR OVER A DECADE and long before ANY of your so called 'lawmakers' ever have. In fact, the so called 'lawmakers' are the ones that wrote and passed the ass laws.

The 'lawmakers' and the media have been ignoring homeowner's concerns for years.

It's no wonder - just take a look at any media sources extensive advertising dollars from builders, developers and realtors and the glorious contributions from the HOA industry to your so-called 'lawmakers'. Tsk tsk.

Now that the HOMEOWNER ADVOCATES have put the "foreclosure by neighbor" issue on the radar screen, there is an unscrupulous lot of lecherous leeches who wants to jump on the bandwagon to "SAVE HOMES" and ride in on the coat tails of the HOMEOWNER ADVOCATES just to further their careers and to plump up their bottom line.

This lecherous lot includes an incestuous mix of lobbyists, 'lawmakers', consumer groups and media, who suddenly give a damn about the "Joe Homeowners" of HOA's, but have NEVER done anything to help them.

You should see the emails from some of these leeches asking to be removed from "Joe Homeowners" email list because they didn't want to hear yet another HOA horror story. 'Lawmakers' considered HOA disputes to be a 'civil' or 'contractual' matter between neighbors - yet they had no problem passing uncivilized HOA law. Go Figure.

Shame on you ALL.

Give credit where credit is due. But for the blood, sweat "equity" (as in the equity of their homes) and tears of the "Joe Homeowners" of HOA's working tirelessly and WITHOUT PAY, I repeat, WITHOUT PAY - "foreclosure by neighbor" in homeowner associations would have NEVER hit the radar screen. And it certainly wouldn't have been because of any of the 'lawmakers'. It was too lucrative.

If that weren't such an irresponsible journalistic faux pas, it might be laughable at best.

Your title SHOULD have read - "HOMEOWNER ADVOCATES SAY HOMEOWNER ASSOCIATION BOARDS HAVE GONE TOO FAR BY SEIZING AND SELLING HOMES OVER MINOR DISPUTES".

Did YOU do your "homework"? No pun intended. And IF you did, where DID you get your information? What were your sources? Who did you talk to? Who did you call for help? Who took the time to call you back? Did you search the internet for answers? If so, at what URL?

We look forward to your answers.

We are,
"Joe Homeowner"
