This is a shocking story even it happened over a year ago.
Three lawyers, a judge and a Homeowners Association system conspired to oppress helpless people. This is a crime and a human-right violation. The relative silence from media, HOA residents and the public in general makes them the silent accomplices.
This proves again that the HOA system must be scrutinized and reined.
If the state governments and/or federal government are unwilling to control or incapable of controlling Homeowner Associations, I wonder if the UN should get involved.

AUTHOR PROFILE: New resident in an area ruled by a community association. I have lived there just less than a year and felt as if I were living in a communist country again, where I escaped more than 40 years ago. I am wondering why the US Marines or UN troops are not sent to rescue us.

The directors of homeowners associations should be held responsible for the discord and violence.

WHERE IS THE ARIZONA MAJOR MEDIA ON THIS STORY??? WAS THERE EVER AN ARTICLE PRINTED ANYWHERE IN THE ARIZONA NEWSPAPERS???? WHERE ARE ALL THOSE ARIZONA LEGISLATORS WHO PASSED DANGEROUS HOA HOUSING BILLS???? WHY THE SILENCE?????
Thank goodness for the internet and forums such as this AHRC website. Without the internet, homeowners would still be in the dark about the risks and liabilities of HOA housing and at the mercy of an unscrupulous HOA housing industry hell bent on slicing that carotid equity and bleeding homeowners to debt.
Good ol' fashioned grass roots activists who don't have to answer to payday, paychecks, payouts and panderers are working hard day and night to expose the corruption and injustice that has invaded and eroded the foundation of the American dream of homeownership.
Who would you believe?

I don't think just the State of Arizona should hang their heads in shame. I believe all states that allow HOA's to exist should hang their heads in shame. These Association's should not exist. The government needs to take them over and not charge any extra fee as taxes on a home should be enough. We're getting taxed and "fee'd" to death in America. Where is the homeowners relief????
I say "do away" with the HOA's and let the government come up with a plan for jobs for people who want to go around snooping and keeping people up-to-par on their houses with "looks". We don't need to be paying extra fees to own a home - this all should be included in the taxes we pay for being a US citizen.
America is no longer the "Land of the Free" as our freedom of speech has been taken away; our religious beliefs are being taken out of classrooms, buildings, work environment, etc. and now we face the threat of losing homes to HOA's! Where's the justice???

Wow! What is going on in Arizona? Isn't that the same state where a guy shot up an HOA board meeting?
Thank you very much for this information. We will be sure to provide our input to the Arizona legislators as well as the media. You are right. This has got to stop!
The Arizona media has been awfully silent on this matter. Why???? Do they answer to the high dollar real estate advertisements from realtors, builders and developers? One has to wonder about those who remain silent about such a tragedy.
Thank goodness for the hard work and passion of the homeowner adovcates and organizations like the American Homeowners Resource Center who are spreading the word about the "tragedy of the commons". We appreciate your efforts.

I agree that the state of Arizona should be ashamed that this was allowed to happen!
A man should not have to lose his paid-for home for a small bill like this! If he had to shoot himself, it is a surprise that he hurt only himself and not the board and attorneys.
It seems like a Boston Tea Party is needed! The people foreclosing on victims like this poor man seem to have no shame, and will not care unless they are made to care.
