By Shu Bartholomew (View author info)

This just in......We're back online again ~ finally! You may need to upgrade Real Audio to the RA8 which should be a free upgrade.

If the fcac "listen now" link does not work, please copy and paste the following url in your browser, it should take you directly to the audio portion of the show: rtsp://gramatan.joybuzzer.com/encoder/webr.rm

If you ever doubted the cruelty that can and does exist in associations, this rebroadcast is a must hear.

This show was originally broadcast live on March 23, 2002.

On The Commons is a weekly radio show dedicated to discussing the many issues surrounding mandatory homeowner associations, the fastest growing form of residential housing in the nation.

"The mischief that could be wrought if it were constitutionally permissible for a condominium association to levy fines on and exact penalties of unit owners is dramatically illustrated by this case." The VA Supremes in Unit Owners Assoc. vs. Gillman. Notwithstanding the warning spelled out in that opinion, common ownership developments continue to prove that the greater the power they are given, the more dangerous and hideous the abuse

On The Commons with me this week is Karon Cave. Karon and her husband are being fined $50,000 by their neighborhood association for having the audacity to use the road to drive home.

Please join us On The Commons this Saturday, March 30, 2002. We'll be hearing their story and we'll also hear what the association has done to prevent the Caves from gaining access to their own home.

On The Commons is broadcast every Saturday from 2-3 PM ET on WEBR Fairfax Radio. In the Northern Virginia area, On The Commons can be heard on Cox Cable, Channel 37 (channel 7 without a box) and Comcast channel 27 and nationally on the internet on www.fcac.org/webr.

I look forward to meeting you On The Commons every Saturday from 2-3 PM ET (11 AM - 12 Noon PT)
