| Sacramento, California -
Is this the end of the road for Gray Davis, governor of California?
Though he was reelected for another 4 year term just a few months ago in November 2002, a recall is gathering steam in California. It is supported by the politically right, left and center. That spells trouble for him. He has a 70% negative rating among voters.
What has sparked this anger? Just about everything.
Before his election, the projected budget deficit was $9 billion. A few weeks after the election it became $34 billion. Davis did not know this before the election? Very few believe that.
Davis bungled the energy crisis, causing Californians to lose billions of dollars. Just before the Democratic National Convention in 2000, SDG&E sent him a letter warning him of the impending energy catastrophe. He ignored it so that everything would appear golden in the golden state. He had visions of running for president in 2004.
Teachers throughout the state are mad at him because he is slashing education right, left and center. Citizens are mad at him for his unbridled and unabashed acceptance of campaign contributions ( known in some circles as bribes.)
AHRC believes that Davis should go.
This is not based on politics. AHRC is non-political. It is based on the simple fact that Davis has caused tremendous suffering to countless homeowners who live in homeowner associations. It is Davis who authored the Davis Stirling Act - the legislation that has created so many foreclosures and lawsuits in California. And the writer of the legislation has admitted that she was told "to take care of the special interests".
Davis will obviously not go quietly. He will fight until the end. But this may be one time when all his money will be of no avail to him. Money many talk, but citizens do not have to listen. They have a mind of their own. They know that he has done wrong in countless areas. It is time to remove him.
