| Marietta, Georgia - For two years, Richard Calhoun has tried to find a way to fly his helicopter out of his east Cobb home. When he did it in 2004, neighbors complained, and Cobb County warned him that he was violating the zoning code that says helicopters aren't allowed to take off in residential areas. . The 55-year-old land-use attorney then proposed his own change to the zoning code -- twice -- to no avail. In August, Calhoun, who is the city attorney for Powder Springs, found a way. He struck a deal with Powder Springs that has the city leasing part of his property, which he says exempted him from the county zoning code. Powder Springs lets him use the property to launch his helicopter in exchange for his using it for five to 10 hours a year "or as much as we agree to" to patrol the Silver Comet Trail, Calhoun said.
